Understated glamour, the combination of a variety of periods and styles and the creation of
comfortable spaces are the foundation of Jan Showers’ style. Jan is inspired by art, travel,
fashion, fine antiques and objects, as well as nature. Her design firm is recognized as one of
the most distinguished in the nation as is her antiques business. Designers and buyers travel
from all over the map to her showroom in Dallas to find rare and noteworthy antiques ranging
from Directoire to mid 20th c. modern. The mix of these pieces, with unusual collections of
Venetian glass accessories, lamps, mirrors and chandeliers are the hallmarks of Showers’ style.

After nearly twenty years as one of Texas’ most successful designers, Jan Showers felt that
something was missing in the Dallas market area, namely an atelier with unusual antiques and
twentieth century decorative pieces. In 1996 she opened her showroom in the Dallas Design
District, presenting a collection that reflected her design philosophy. The showroom not only
catered to Showers’s clients but also attracted many designers from all over the country. Buyers
from San Francisco to New York have all become regular patrons.

Though most of the showrooms in the Dallas design district were selling traditional English and
classic French, Showers purchased very differently for her 6,000 square foot space. She began to
acquire Louis XVI, Directoire, Napoleon III, and mid-twentieth century designers.

Showers is especially drawn to the clean, simple lines of forties French designers such as Jacques
Adnet, Andre Arbus, Jean-Michel Frank, Jules Leleu, Maxime Old and Jacque-Emile Rhulman
as well as Bagues and Maison Jansen. These key pieces are mixed with unusual collections of
Venetian glass accessories, lamps, Italian and French mirrors along with a variety of vintage
chandeliers.

In early 2000, Jan Showers decided to make custom pieces she had been designing for her clients
available to showrooms across the United States, thus creating The Jan Showers Collection. The
Jan Showers Collection is available through showrooms in Dallas, Dania, Houston, Los Angeles,
San Francisco, New York and Atlanta. She has also designed an exclusive collection of hand-
blown, signed and numbered glass for Neiman-Marcus. “My designs mix with different interiors
from classic to modern--- my criteria is that they remain timeless,” says Showers.

Jan Showers is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. She has been featured
in Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, InStyle Home, In Style, Town & Country,
Western Interiors, Veranda, Traditional Home and Southern Accents. Showers has been named as
one of “The Top 100 Interior Designers in America” by House Beautiful, Western Interiors “Gold
List” and has been one of the featured designers in Andrew Martin’s International Book of
Design.

Jan has been the featured speaker in Los Angeles for West Week on several occasions.
Presentations have also been made in Houston, Atlanta and Dallas speaking on various topics
from “The Art of the Mix” to “How to Find and Work with an Interior Designer.” She has been
a panelist with editors and designers on many design topics. In January 2008, Jan received the
Lifetime Achievement Award for Interior Design from the Fashion Group International.

Jim Showers, her husband, is very important in her life and businesses. He travels with her to
Europe on buying trips and is involved in many other aspects of each business. They have two
daughters, Elizabeth Showers, a well known Dallas jewelry designer and national spokesperson
for the Elisa Project and Susanna Showers Moldawer, a former anchor/television news reporter

and now mother of three children as well as a contributing editor to Southern Accents.

Jan Showers is the author of “Glamorous Rooms” published by Harry Abrams in 2009. The book
is a compilation of Jan’s work over the past 25 years and is in its fourth printing. A new interiors
book is in the works for publication in fall of ‘11 or spring of ‘12.

Last year Jan and her daughter, Elizabeth Showers, chaired 2 x 2 which benefited the Dallas
Museum of Art and amFAR. Jan also serves as a Trustee of the Dallas Museum of Art and is
involved with the Elisa Project.
